Unfortunately that also means dating her nemesis, Single Guy, for the entire world to see.

A cynic giving love advice…

Reluctant, dating columnists, Ryan Matthews, otherwise known as Single Guy, thinks reality-dating shows are soul-sucking endeavors that have more to do with selling unrealistic expectations than love. Excerpt from Love Reality

The fluttering low in her belly told her she was in trouble. But it was her brain perking up that told her she was a goner. She slid into the booth next to him. "You're right. I made an assumption. And we all know when you make an assumption, you make an ass out of you—"
He didn't even let her finish, as they excitedly chanted in unison "—and umption."
He laughed. "What? You thought you were going to get me with a Samuel L. quote? Long Kiss Goodnight is a classic movie. Okay, now that I pass muster on movies and music. Time to get personal. Text or talk."
She didn't even need to think about it. “For flirting, text. For emotional connection, talk. I know how guys are with the phone, but I prefer it. Besides, phone sex is so much hotter than sexting. A picture might speak a thousand words, but it’s all about the tease. It’s hotter.”
“Will you marry me?“
Mia laughed. “You’ll have to work a lot harder than that. It’s like sending an email to say thank you. Sure, it’s convenient, but a letter is so much more personal. When I’m pitching a show, I always send a personal letter.”
“How can you talk about phone sex and be so old fashioned?”
It was too easy to talk to him, to flirt. Mia felt like someone else. “I’m a woman. It’s all part of the mystery.”
And they went back and forth like that for an hour. There, in the dim light of the secluded bar, she chatted with a stranger about what she liked to read and her favorite food and favorite indulgences as if she'd known him forever. Maybe this was one of those epic nights that movies were based on. He was fun and relaxed. He didn't seem to take himself too seriously. She could use some of that in her life.
But it wasn't until he asked her for her favorite drink that things got interesting. "It's a toss-up between a Caiprihna and a mojito. All depends on who's making it."
His eyes lit up. "Come with me." He stood.
"What? Where are we going?"
He laughed. "It's called going on an adventure. Surely you've been on one before?"
"Yes. Just not with total strangers."
"Relax. We'll catch a cab. And, I'm taking you somewhere very public. It just happens to be one of my favorite places in the city. Are you game?"
That was the real question. She usually played it safe. But the tiny voice in her head kept telling her to live a little. Have some fun. For one night, she could let go, right? "Okay, but I warn you, if you plan on trying to chop me up into little pieces, I'm going to make it very difficult for you."
He chuckled. "Noted. Now are you up for an adventure, or aren't you?"
Mia watched him warily when he held out a fist to her.
“Will you hold this for a second?”
She automatically reached her hand out, and he opened his hand to take hers. “Now we’re dating and I’m not a stranger.”
Despite herself, Mia laughed but clasped his hand tightly. "Lead the way."

Taking Fire

In Taking Fire (Shadow Warriors #7) by Lindsay McKenna, Marine Sergeant Khat is a black ops warrior deep in the mountains of Afghanistan.  Few know she's even there.  Khat has her own reasons for doing what she does, and she is determined, brave and strong.

When Khat spots a small team of SEALs unknowingly headed straight for a Taliban ambush, she gets involved.  Despite her handler's orders not to give away her position, she must take matters into her own hands to save them.  Three of the SEALs manage to get to safety, but Mike is separated from them, injured and unconscious.  Khat, who has a variety of skills important to what she is doing, rescues him, taking him into the cave she is hiding in.

Mike's awakening in the cave is a touch of humor in the seriousness of Taking Fire, and he is mesmerized by Khat.  Scarred mentally and physically from what she has endured in the past, Mike sees beyond all that from the beginning.  As he heals enough to be transported back to base, Khat takes care of him and the two of them feel, but don't act, on their attraction to one another.  Khat is focused on her mission, and she doesn't believe any man will want her anyway due to her past.  There is one man who does though...and when Mike Tarik gets back to FOB Bravo,  he can't get her out of his mind.

When things start to change up for Khat and she sees more of Mike, she is torn between what she wants, what she feels like she deserves, and her mission.  Mike knows he wants to be with Khat...and he's doing what he can to make that happen.  They are both fighting for other people, but will they fight for each other?  Or is the burden of what's happened in the past too heavy for Khat to get rid of and take the chance on change and Mike?

Taking Fire is fast paced, was easy to follow and easy to stay involved in.  Mike and Khat are great main characters who complement each other even when they don't realize it.  Khat is truly amazing, especially after all she has been through.  She is so focused on doing right for others though that she has lost sight of her own self care.  Mike sees this and does what he can in a subtle way to help her, but he doesn't try to strong arm her into doing anything.  I liked how he was with her, his understanding even though he was concerned.  He wants more with Khat, and he awakens desires within her.  Even as the thought of trying to have more with Mike, scares her.  They have fallen hard and fast for each other, but Khat is much more cautious.  I liked how they tried to work through this, even when Khat just wanted to run away.  The attraction and feelings between Khat and Mike happen fast, but they have so many things in common it is completely believable.

The setting for Taking Fire is all Afghanistan, and Lindsay gives great insight into military life in a plot that is powerful and very meaningful in today's world.  Lindsay very obviously knows her subject, and this is well portrayed throughout Taking Fire from the romance to the battles they must face in the war torn country.  I love how Lindsay writes.  Her characters spring to life because of the believability she builds in them and the plot.

Lindsay explores cultural differences and what they mean, as well as taking us into the lives of some Afghani’s, which adds a lot of dimension to Taking Fire.  The characters in Taking Fire have enough inner conflict to set them apart from other characters in this series, and Taking Fire can be read as a stand alone although I recommend the whole series.  The title of the whole series (Shadow Warriors) is so appropriate, especially for Khat and Mike's story.

Written in dual POV's to take us deep into the characters minds, Taking Fire is a military romantic suspense and I'd recommend it to any romantic suspense reader.

Midnight Promises

In Midnight Promises (Midnight #5) by Lisa Marie Rice, the secrets in Felicity's family run deep.  Having spent her life in the witness protection program, Felicity is independent, works freelance, keeps to herself and is pretty socially isolated by choice.  Someone knows Felicity's secrets though...and they want to know more, stopping at nothing to get the answers they are sure Felicity has.  Felicity is very smart and ready for almost anything.  Except for an attempted abduction attempt as she is on her way to pay a surprise first visit to her cyber friend Lauren.  The abduction attempt leaves Felicity badly injured, but she keeps her wits about her, very aware that whoever attacked her could still be lurking.  She barely manages to make it to her friend Lauren's house before she collapses...

Right into the arms of Sean, former Navy SEAL medic known as Metal.  From the moment he sees and touches Felicity, even not knowing what is going on, he feels for her and knows he will do whatever it takes to keep her safe.  But will it be enough?  As they, along with a host of necessary secondary characters try to keep Felicity safe while figuring out who is after her and why, Felicity and Metal find an unexpected relationship between them growing, and the heat reaching boiling point.  Will they find answers before it is too late to have any kind of future together?

I absolutely loved Midnight Promises!  Lisa Marie Rice pulled me in from the first page and kept my attention to the very last word of Midnight Promises.  My favorite part of the book is the relationship between Metal and Felicity.  Although it is fast, it is so natural, like they were just meant for each other.  There was no relationship angst, no thoughts of why they shouldn't be involved...they just accepted their feelings and went with it!  I love characters that are strong enough to do this.  I like that they both have had bad things happen to them in the past but they don't let it cloud their future.  We see their relationship developing at the same time that Lisa Marie Rice is treating us to the action, danger and mystery of a great romantic suspense.  She weaves it all together so it blends well, and the flow is fantastic.

There are secondary characters you will recognize from previous Midnight books in Midnight Promises, but they are very much part of the present story so I believe Midnight Promises can be read alone.  I have read some but not all of the Midnight series and had no difficulty or confusion.  This is very much Metal and Felicity's story.

I liked the political aspects that Lisa Marie Rice writes about, and for me this gave the story a strong sense of realism and believability.  She kept me on the edge of my seat with a powerful plot.

Lisa Marie Rice made me genuinely feel for the Felicity and Metal, her descriptions of them and their actions really brought them to life for me and made them very unforgettable.

I'd highly recommend Midnight Promises to any romantic suspense reader, you won't be able to put it down!

In Crank (Jack 'Em Up #1) by Shauna Allen, Delilah and Blake are meant to be together...but lately for Deliah it just doesn't feel like it used to anymore.  She loves him with everything she has, but lately she feels neglected and forgotten as Blake works hard to make a success of his business, and in his mind, his business being successful will mean he can give Delilah everything she deserves.  But all Delilah wants is Blake.  A breaking point is reached for Delilah, along with her breaking heart, and she files for a divorce from Blake.

Blake is brought crashing to the reality of his marriage breaking up, and the feeling that Delilah has given up on them.  He just knows he doesn't understand, and he doesn't want a divorce.  Both of them have issues though and past events that haunt them. Blake is still struggling with his past and who he is (or isn't!).  As he fights to save their marriage, can he finally leave the past where it belongs and focus on a future with Delilah?  Or is it too late to heal broken hearts?

Shauna writes a story filled with emotion in Crank.  Crank is easy to fall into and stay in.  Blake and Delilah are both strong main characters, and I loved how Shauna managed to write Crank in alternating dual first person POV's so smoothly.  This really made it easy to get into the characters heads and their feelings.  Delilah and Blake have been together since they were quite young, and it was easy to hope for them and their relationship despite the struggles they are facing in Crank.  Their relationship issues are realistic, and Shauna does a great job of portraying these in a believable manner.  It is not only relationship issues between Blake and Delilah that are part of Crank, but Shauna weaves in other issues they have, making these characters dimensional, and leaving me feeling for them both.  The deep connection Delilah and Blake have is palpable, even through their troubles.

I liked the mix of secondary characters who are a great supporting cast, and I can't wait to see more of them!

Feelings pour off the pages in this fast paced romance, and I like how Shauna brought Blake and Delilah to life.  I'd recommend Crank to any romance reader!

Release Date: February 2, 2015
Tour Dates: February 2, 2015 – February 6, 2015
Genre: New Adult Contemporary Romance
Buy Links: TBD – will send out when these are live

Book Summary:

**The second book in a New Adult contemporary romance series!
**This contemporary New Adult romance is intended for readers 17+. Contains adult content, language, and situations.

Fasten your seatbelt…

Marketing Program Manager, Vanessa Rodriquez, is driven to succeed and keeps the finish line in sight at all times…until one unexpected pit stop at her best friend’s wedding sends her skidding off course. Sleeping with Alex McIntyre wasn't supposed to make her feel this way—scattered, unfocused, and in need of another sexual tune-up. If only he didn’t make her feel so alive.

Yield to oncoming desire…

Alex can’t resist the beautiful Vanessa any more than he can resist his need for speed as an amateur race car driver. Even though she claims to hate him, she keeps coming back for lap after lap in his bed. When he ends up moving in next door to her, their sexual chemistry turns to deep desire. Ready to go full throttle, he convinces her to be his grid girl on—and off—the track. Van, however, puts on the brakes.

Race against love…

If Van can just course correct, it’ll be smooth sailing toward her goals. Or will it? Alex is smart, sexy, and way too much of a distraction, but maybe she needs to shake up her world and do the one thing she swore she’d never do…follow her heart. Will she risk it all to cross the finish line? Or will she and Alex crash and burn before they have a chance at love?

Hit & Miss Groom Excerpt 4

The purse of her lips and narrowing of her eyes told him she truly wasn’t interested. Which was ruining his goddamned night. Maybe he should cut his losses and save face. “What did I do to piss you off so much, Vanessa? We had to work together on this wedding thing and I did everything you wanted and then some. Whatever I did, I’m sorry.”
She sighed and looked completely annoyed that he would apologize. That confused him even more. Most women loved a man who could say he was sorry, and if it meant getting on Van’s good side—if she had one—he’d say it until he was blue in the face.
“You’re not pissing me off. I just don’t buy it. You can cut the Boy Scout show. No one is watching you. You don’t have to pretend. Can’t you be real for once?”
Real? “Um, I hate to tell you this, but I am a Boy Scout. Or was.”
“Now, there’s a surprise.”
“You want real? Okay, here it is. I grew up with loving, if nutty, parents, breezed through school, decided I like helping people, and here I am. Working for the 3 Wishes Foundation and enjoying life. No skeletons in my closet, no weird fetishes—unless you count the one about black lace tights and heels—and I’ve never done Pilates in my entire life, although I do enjoy watching women do it.”
Her cheek did this little tick and the corner of her lips moved.
“Wait, was that a smile?” He nudged her with his elbow. “Did I just get the ice queen to smirk?”
Her eyes widened in mock protest. “Ice queen? So now I’m a Disney princess? Nice, Alex. Real nice.”
Oh, she was indeed an ice queen, with a volcano of heat underneath waiting to explode. He wanted to widen the crack in her facade and let that molten lava out to play. “Are you sure you won’t have a drink? Or we could dance. Listen, it’s Shakira. You could show me some moves. Preferably ones that go along with the cardio strip tease. I hear the hips don’t lie.”
She smacked his arm. Contact.
The A-man was back on his game.
Alex smiled, loving that her shoulders were a bit looser, her face softer.
“I don’t dance,” she said, still trying to sound like the ice queen but failing, “with Boy Scouts.”
“That’s a shame. I have moves that other Boy Scouts never dreamt of.”
“I bet you do.” She slid off her stool, grabbed her credit card and slipped it into the cleavage of the dress. Then she picked up the heels setting on the floor and swung them around her fingers. “Or at least you think you do. I’m off to bed.”
Bed…Van. His cock twitched, already riled up after the talk about strip teases. He jumped up. “I’ll walk you to your room.”
She stopped him with a hand on his chest. “Thanks, but I know the way.”
He was about to argue when Liam’s father sidled up next to him. “Liam told me about your race Saturday. Congratulations. Best time yet.”
Van was walking away and Alex really didn’t want to discuss his racing. It was his hobby. A hobby he liked to keep secret from his family, who, thank God, weren’t here.
His gaze followed Van and her sexy legs walking away from him. He wanted to run after her, but he couldn’t be rude to Liam’s dad. He shook the man’s hand and patted him on the back. “Thanks.”
The guy didn’t let go. “Keep that up and the big guys will be coming after you, you know. I have a friend whose son is sponsored by Red Bull. Started out the same as you, sprint racing on the weekends. Now he’s doing Formula 1 as a career. He’s pulling in the sponsors, having the time of his life.”
Racing with a sponsor. Alex’s dream since he was a kid racing karts around a dirt track. A dream he would never follow. His work with 3 Wishes was his career. An important job where a lot of people counted on him, from the volunteers all the way to the board of directors. His mother and father would stroke out if they discovered he’d taken up racing again.
Van had disappeared out the door. Alex gave Liam’s dad another pat. “That’s great. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I need to call it a night.”
He didn’t wait for s response, but by the time he hit the hallway where the elevators were located, Van was gone.
